Gorillaz are playing the Pyramid Stage on Friday 25th June 2010

Gorillaz have been announced to play Glastonbury's Pyramid stage this year, the band will take to the stage in the headline slot of Friday night. The band were drafted in at the 11th hour after rock legends U2 were forced to cancel their scheduled appearance after a severe back injury left singer Bono unable to perform.

We're like some great big horrible warship pulling in to the Bay of Glastonbury to save the day. It was us or The Beatles and they split up years ago. The previous soldiers got pulled from duty last minute so it's up to my Plastic Beach naval cavalry to sail in and sort the battlefield out. I can assure you though, I'm bringing extra troops. Loads of them. Glastonbury will be ours...cutlasses drawn, trumpets ready. We're coming in....

englandland If Damon comes to Glastonbury after having played in Tel Aviv I'll be devastated. Israeli commandos just murdered peace activists in international waters. All kinds of musicians have cancelled their gigs in Israel; but after today, if someone as switched on as Damon doesn't do it, it'll be a trajedy. Damon! Please cancel that Tel Aviv gig!
